Panic! At the Disco Is Still On Top Of the World

Panic! At the Disco released two new singles this week, "(F*ck A) Silver Lining" and "(Say Amen) Saturday Night."Bendon Urie's vocals are still in pristine condition; Whether he is belting or exercising the full extent of his range, his vocals are crisp and clear. Both tracks are full throttle stadium pop with production that utilizes distorted instruments. On "Silver Lining," the brass slightly distorted horns and bass are juxtaposed against Brendon's robust belting in the hook. Lyrically, the song is about an innate desire to excel and extract the best outcome out of every situation. "Silver Lining" is a little under 3 minutes but it packs quite a punch for such a short amount of time, plus it references Beyoncé and Lemonade, what's not to love?

On "Saturday Night," Brendon's rock and hip-hop influences are more clear; he uses pitched vocals, pulsating synths and strings to craft a soundscape where he can really flex his vocal prowess. Brendon has said that this song is about attempting to reconcile his career with his Mormon upbringing. The contrast between life on Saturday nights and praying in church on Sundays makes for an interesting lyrical theme. Brendon is at once earnest and exasperated in his vocal performance on this song, and it's an unwittingly universal message. Both tracks bode well for the group's sixth album, Pray for the Wicked.
