Kesha Releases New Soundtrack Single, "Here Comes The Change" (Review)

For her first musical release since her poignant comeback album, Rainbow (which I reviewed here), Kesha has lent her voice to the soundtrack for the upcoming Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic, On The Basis of Sex.

The power ballad, "Here Comes The Change" blends the country influences sprinkled across Rainbow and the power ballad aesthetic that made "Praying" so compelling. As the world keeps turning, Kesha belts she "hopes [she] leaves this place better than [she] found it." The song is clearly meant to be an inspirational end credits song, but the message is a bit too overbearing. Kesha delivers a solid vocal performance; she exhibits more control over her voice with this track and her soft tone has developed immensely. This song could be a formidable contender for the Best Original Song race. The real star of the song is the harmonica. The instrument is so wisely used and delicately played that I hope it starts a trend of more harmonica in popular music.

On The Basis of Sex will be released in theatres on December 25, 2018.
